Code 13EC - error installing VS2010 SP1 Update

For a time and a season, I struggled with this error code, Code 13EC, which is related to the installation of Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Update.

Not that it happens to all computers that carries Visual Studio 2010, but to one, or two.

So it beats me to some confusion, what's wrong?

Try as I will, whenever I have time, the result is the same: Code 13EC, error installing Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Update.

If I am not mistaken, whenever there is some update for Windows, this KB is included, and every time, it would fail. What's wrong?

I searched, and found some articles, but none helped. It helped others, but not me.

Then while doing some other updates, which was not coursed through Windows Update, I just thought of 'hitching' this particular update to the batch, which is using MS Web Platform Installer. My guess and trial was backed by my finding the same update when I searched for updates using that particular application.

And... voila!

It worked!

And did I try it on the other computers? You betcha! And it worked also!

So if you are getting Code 13EC, error installing Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Update, try MS Web Platform Installer. It just might be the answer to your problem.

Out for the week

Image via WikipediaI am on external course for the whole week, brushing up on my .NET knowledge.

As it turns out, I really need to have a refresher course: a lot I've already forgotten, and many I have ignored. I have picked up a few things to "enhance" the performance of my existing applications, and a few more things to help me develop better applications in the future.

Hopefully, the whole-week course is really going to be a boost in my coding skill.

Google Alerts

I came across this nice and useful feature from Google, which is Google Alerts.

Anytime a certain keyword or word combination is searched, you can receive a notification, and you can set that alert in several ways: (1) as it happens, (2) daily, and (3) weekly.

You can also set the number of results, which can be (1) 20, or (2) 50.

As in all things so wonderful (I say it is!), don't get too excited.

You just might be overwhelmed.

Test the waters, and decide your comfortable level. You're good to go!

I've just set up my alerts of 7 keywords, and I'm starting to enjoy it. Hopefully, the main purpose of it being a useful tool be fulfilled in me.

Google adds automatic translation to Gmail

WASHINGTON : Google added automatic translation technology to Gmail on Tuesday, allowing users of its email service to translate messages in another language with a single mouse click.

The Mountain View, California-based Internet giant said it had integrated its Google Translate programme into Gmail, allowing automatic translation of messages in several dozen languages.

"When you receive an email in a language other than your own, Gmail will help you translate it into a language you can understand," Google said in a post on the company blog.

"If all parties are using Gmail, you can have entire conversations in multiple languages with each participant reading the messages in whatever language is most comfortable for them," Google said.

Google has already made Google Translate available to provide automatic translations of entire Web pages or blogs.
