If you’ve been hankering for a new version of Windows to replace XP, you’ll be glad to know that the next version of Microsoft’s major operating system (OS) is a step closer to its commercial release. The software giant has made the Release Candidate of Windows 7 (which means it is nearly ready for release) available for download from its Download Centre (www.microsoft.com/downloads).
The Release Candidate contains most features of the final version, such as a Windows XP Mode that will allow you to run any XP-specific programmes on the Professional and Ultimate versions of Windows 7. Other refinements include remote media streaming, a user interface suited for touch gestures, as well as a redesigned taskbar.
The Release Candidate version expires on June 1, 2010, after which your computer will shut down every two hours. To avoid this, you’ll need to install a commercial version of Windows. HEDIRMAN SUPIAN
