I've been looking at the templates for blogspots, and the starter set are all in 2-column formats. And the content would have to be going down, down, and down, especially when the number of things you have is growing. Posts are normally going down, especially if there are many. But sidebars and gadgets would really have to go down, down, down with the increase of such items in your blog.

What's the solution?

Convert to 3-column template!

Or at least, if not making your blog 3-column, remove some items. So if you are like me, who would rather go for "no-deletion" mode, and would keep everything that I have been accustomed to see, or if I can use a template that will allow me to put in some more that what I have now (with the 2-column template, that is), then a 3-column blooger template is the answer to your question.

Checked on the web, and found many that are very, very complicated, some are suprefluously artistic, and some are overly simple.

Suited for blogger? Many are not, although they claim to be. But good grief, I did find still many websites that have a working version, and complatible with blogger.com.

I just picked one, where most, if not all, of the 2-column templates are available in 3-column formats.

1,295 systems hacked

Sensitive official data from 103 countries compromised; Dalai Lama among victims

TORONTO — A cyber spy network based mainly in China hacked into classified documents from government and private organisations in 103 countries, including the computers of the Dalai Lama and Tibetan exiles, Canadian researchers said on Saturday.

The Information Warfare Monitor initially focused their work on allegations of Chinese cyber espionage against the Tibetan community in exile, but eventually included a much wider network of compromised machines.

“We uncovered real-time evidence of malware that had penetrated Tibetan computer systems, extracting sensitive documents from the private office of the Dalai Lama,’’ said investigator Greg Walton.

The research group said that it has not been able to detect the identity or motivation of the hackers.

The researchers detected a cyber espionage network involving over 1,295 compromised computers from the ministries of foreign affairs of Iran, Bangladesh, Latvia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Barbados and Bhutan.

They also found hacked systems in the embassies of India, South Korea, Indonesia, Romania, Cyprus, Malta, Thailand, Taiwan, Portugal, Germany and Pakistan.

Once the hackers infiltrated the systems, they gained control using malware and sent and received data from them.

Two researchers at Cambridge University who worked on a part of the investigation related to the Tibetans wrote in a separate report that the attacks should be noted for their ability to collect “actionable intelligence for use by the police and security services of a repressive state, with potentially fatal consequences for those exposed”. InstaPaper, website of the week

I love reading articles and stories online but with the wealth of material available, I've acquired the bad habit of keeping a dozen or so tabs in my Web browser open, so I won't forget to parse through them later. That isn't a problem anymore with Instapaper, a simple and free bookmarking tool. There are plenty of bookmarking websites on the Web but Instapaper gets our pick for giving the least minimal amount of fuss to get it done.

Once you register, you can add a "Read Later" bookmarklet in your browser that you can click on to save the current Web page for viewing later.

It keeps a record of the bookmark inside its online database, allowing you to access it from anywhere.

Lucky you if you've got an iPhone. The Instapaper application for the iPhone syncs and stores a simple text version of what you've bookmarked online, so you can read your material even when you don't have a connection.

A lightweight version of e-mail sender for my blog

After exhausting (really!) all my options, I found that simply disabling the 'Use Word as editor' option in Outlook is not foolproof.

At least I know now why my sidebars are out of place - many times confirmed.

And I also know why they behave that way.

So if I continue to use Outlook to send posts to my blog, then I wouldn't know when I will get hit, since there is no assurance of a 100% 'clean behaviour' for my e-mails - there will be instances that I activate some formatting options, and that would once again disfigure my blog. No way!

So I browsed through the internet for some lightweight e-mail sender to do away with any (take note, any) and all rich text or html formatting, and that should make it effective everytime.

I did find one. And it does the work. And wonders! I'd say wonders because despite it its minuscule size, not to mention it being free (it's a freeware), it will save me a lot of trouble, all the troubles that I got using MS Outlook. Not that MSO is not good, but in my case, and required application, this free software works.

And that small software is the Small EMail Sender. It's all over the web, so it is easily found. I'm using v2.0.0.0.

Finally found the cause of the blog width problem

After doing a lot of experimentation, and looking up in the web and blogger boards and instruction sets, and into the tips and tricks and help forums, and having followed to the bolt and nut what the experts have suggested and hinted or proposed, or recommended, but still makes my blog's post window push down or shift down the sidebars, I finally found the rootcause.

Guessing still?

It is the editor formatting from my Outlook e-mail.

Since this feature is available in the blogger system, I have used it the moment I knew of it. From then on, the sidebars are out of place. Then, I went as far as modifying the width of all the windows (post, sidebar, etc.) - to no avail.

After some months, I created new blogs, chose the templates, and with each new template I selected and activated, the page is rendered correctly. I even switched from Internet Explorer, to Firefox, then to Maxthon, and there is no rendition problem.

All of the different blogger templates are showing up correctly and properly - until I posted. Then I remembered some time past that when I made one post by e-mail, then went to edit it in the blogpage directly, that some error messages were thrown out, in particular, to the formatting that is not handled in html; of course, I determined that these are MS Word formatting commands, so that gave me a hint.

So what I did was to turn off the 'edit using Word' option in my Outlook mail application, and voila!

This one is now coming from my Outlook mail with the option turned off.

It works!
